Meet the Startup: Sea.Sense

Sea.Sense is a Belgian food brand on a bold mission to bring seaweed closer to EU customers. They combine European seaweed, sustainably farmed in the pristine waters of Sweden, with crispy agricultural grains & seeds enriched with gastronomic flavours. Today, they offer four distinct crispy seaweed toppings (wasabi, tomato, Korean, and beetroot) designed to elevate everyday meals with a burst of taste and nutrition.

European seaweed is considered highly qualitative, naturally rich in iodine, antioxidants, and essential minerals, making it a nutrient-dense addition to any diet. Beyond its nutritional value, seaweed offers significant ecological benefits. Its cultivation requires no arable land, minimal freshwater, and no fertilizers, while contributing to carbon capture and improving marine biodiversity. By incorporating seaweed into diets across Europe, Sea.Sense not only promotes healthy eating but also supports sustainable and environmentally responsible food production (at sea).

Their flavour enhancing toppings are more than just an ingredient on the table or in the kitchen, it’s a way to explore new flavours, experiment and create new culinary experiences at home. Their 4 flavours can be used on the same dish though creates a completely different experience.

Each variety has been carefully crafted: the wasabi variant delivers a subtle heat and a vibrant aroma, perfect for enhancing sushi, salads, or roasted vegetables; the tomato flavor brings a sun-ripened sweetness that complements pasta, soups, and sandwiches; the Korean variant combines umami and mild spiciness for a unique twist on traditional dishes; and the beetroot option adds earthy notes and a striking color to yoghurt, fruit bowls, snacks, or even breakfast dishes.

Sea.Sense is committed to transparency, sustainability, and quality. All their seaweed is traceable from farm to shelf, ensuring that customers receive a product that is not only delicious but responsibly sourced. By choosing local European seaweed over imported alternatives, they reduce the carbon footprint associated with long-distance transport and support the growth of the European seaweed industry and/or disrupt the current furikake market in Asia.
